In June 2007, the British Prime Minister Gordon Brown divided up ministerial responsibility for education into :
- the Department for Children, Schools and Families (Ed Balls)
- the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills (John Denham)
In the recent reshuffle the ministry has changed names to :
- the Department for Business, Innovation, & Skills - so gaining "business", but dropping "universities", although higher education remains within its remit.
With Peter (Lord) Mandelson, as Minister, and the Rt Hon David Lammy MP as Minister of State for Higher Education and Intellectual.
